Maize is the major staple food crop in sub-Saharan Africa and its production is one of the important domains of research of the Africans scientists who have finally created WECAMAN, a network specially dedicated to this cereal.

La production de l’amidon de manioc mobilise les paysans en Afrique australe où 14 pays ont initié, sous la houlette de l’IITA, le projet SARRNET dont l'objectif principal est de réduire la pauvreté dans cette région douloureusement frappée par la sécheresse.

Un champignon Bon Samaritain pour sauver le manioc
Si la culture du manioc, devenu l'or vert des économies à l'échelle de l'Afrique, est reconnue comme telle, il reste que le secteur privé et les pouvoirs publics assument leur responsabilité: celle d'aider au transfert au producteur de l'espoir suscité par la découverte d'un champignon qu'on dit ''Bon Samaritain''.
The mushroom that brings hope in cassava planting
A special mushroom which has already been tested to prevent cassava from grasshoper is available while a scientist is complaining: ''if the discovery is an event for the scientific community, we are still waiting for funding to transfer the technology to farmers and to promote it widely''.
