27 July 2010 Scientist Live: Tackling a devastating pest outbreak
...IITA, CIAT and various partner organizations curbed mealybug attacks on Africa's cassava crop during the 1980s through a highly successful biocontrol campaign, which staved off a major food security catastrophe, according to IITA entomologist Georg Goergen, who hand-carried a colony of the 500 wasps from Benin to Bangkok last year to start the testing and mass rearing.
26 July 2010 Center for Thai & ASEAN News Study: Global Exchange: Fair trade in cocoa and chocolate could hit Indonesia and Malaysia
...The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) followed up these reports with an extensive study of cocoa farms in the Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon, directly involving over 4,500 producers. The results were released in August 2002... The IITA also reported that about 12,500 children working on cocoa farms had no relatives in the area, a warning sign for trafficking.

...A statement quoted the director-general of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Dr Peter Hartmann, as telling Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda in Dodoma recently that the crop could also provide food security in dry regions.
