Professor of Plant Health Management at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL) at Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. He is also Head of the Phytopathology Unit and Director of the Mycotheca of UCL, a collection of fungi and yeasts with agroindustrial interest, and a member of the Belgium Coordinated Collections of Microorganisms (BCCM/MUCL). He has been Chairman of the Department of Applied Biology and Agricultural Productions of the Faculty Council.
Dr Maraite is supervising collaborative research projects with ICRISAT on integrated management of peanut clump in Niger and with CIMMYT on the influence of farming practices on leaf blight of wheat in the Indian subcontinent. He is presently also involved in collaborative projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Vietnam, and China.
He was a member of the 1995 EPMR of IITA and the 1998 EPMR of IRRI. Between 1977 and 1987, he collaborated with IITA on the cassava bacterial blight (CBB)and cassava anthracnose diseases (CAD).
Dr Maraite obtained his PhD in Phytopathology from the University of Louvain and had postdoctoral stays at Purdue University, Indiana and Instituto Biologico, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
